by isleofman.com 13th September 2010

SATURDAY morning music workshops run by the Department of Education and Children will be starting at the end of this month.

The workshops take place at Victoria Road Primary School, Castletown and Cronk-y-Berry Primary School, Douglas and places are still available.

From 10am to 12 noon, children aged seven to 13 learn a range of activities in a fun atmosphere including singing, the recorder, the guitar, classroom percussion, the electronic keyboard, folk music, aural training and music theory.

Head of the music service Maggie Richardson said: "The Saturday morning workshops offer children a variety of musical experiences each week and, although they work hard each week, the atmosphere is relaxed and fun.

"Through musical games, singing, playing and movement, children will extend their musical knowledge and gain in confidence. There will be opportunities for parents to hear what their children have achieved in the end of term concerts."

Workshops run in the autumn and spring terms and cost £21 per term, payable on the first Saturday. The first of 10 sessions this term takes place on Saturday, September 25.

To enrol your child call the Music Centre on 01624 686555 or click here to download an application form and an information sheet.
