Charities on the Island benefit from Viking Longboat races

NINE Manx charities have received donations as a result of the recent Viking Longboat Championships.

 

A record 83 teams entered this year’s championship which is now in its 47th year.

 

The prize money from the teams who finished first, second and third in the male, female and mixed categories has been donated to the following charities.

 

Male category:

1) Manx Mencap - £500
2) Joey Dunlop Foundation - £250
3) St John’s School Special Needs Unit - £150

 

Female category:

1) Hyperbaric Chamber - £500
2) IOM Special Care Baby Unit - £250
3) Breakthrough Breast Cancer IOM - £150

 

Mixed category:

1) Peel Anti Cancer Association - £500
2) Hospice Isle of Man - £250
3) Motor Neurone Disease Association - £150

 

Chairman of the event Nigel Rawlinson said: "We had a fantastic turnout in Peel for the event and it’s good to see so many worthwhile Manx charities benefiting from such a long standing tradition.

 

"I would like to thank our sponsor, Royal London 360° without whom we would not be able to make this event happen."
