Castletown complete season to remember

by isleofman.com 13th September 2010

Castletown won the Standard Bank League Cup Final when they beat St John’s by 130 runs.

Travis Friend received the Man of the Match award for hitting a sparkling 99 and taking three wickets.

Batting first, the Town quickly lost both openers, but then Friend and Gareth Morris shared a partnership of 118. Morris was bowled by Nick Hawke for 41, but Wicus Wessells then joined Travis to add another 62 runs.

The southerners ended their 50 overs on 246 for six, leaving St John’s a difficult target to chase.

They soon had problems when tight bowling from Garreth Roome and Andy Sewell pinned down their top order. Phil Littlejohns hit out, but when he was run out for a lively 25, the Town closed in for the kill. Aycock finished a good spell with four wickets and St John’s ended on 116.

After the match, Chris Till of sponsors Standard Bank presented the Karran Shield to winning skipper Ollie Steriopulos.

Castletown thus closed a successful year which saw them top the Premiership, take the Twenty20s and now gain the League Cup.
