by isleofman.com 13th September 2010

IT will be all change for three Isle of Man police inspectors today (Monday).

Inspector Phil Shimmin moves from the Public Protection Unit Investigation Team to head up Douglas Neighbourhood Policing Team (DNPT), replacing Inspector Richard Power who moves from DNPT to take charge of the Northern Neighbourhood Policing Team (NNPT) based in Ramsey.

Inspector Derek Flint moves from NNPT to Police Headquarters as part of the Audit and Review function.

Superintendent Paul Cubbon, Head of Neighbourhood Policing, said: "The appointment of Inspector Richard Power as the new head of the Northern Neighbourhood Policing Team will provide the opportunity to build upon and enhance the excellent work and community links developed by Inspector Derek Flint over the previous two years.

"The Northern Neighbourhood Policing team currently enjoys first class community relations and crime and public disorder has fallen markedly during the previous 12 months thanks to Inspector Flint and his team.

"Inspector Power will bring a different dimension to the Northern Team and will use his recognised engagement skills to continue to enhance existing community partnerships.

"Inspector Phil Shimmin has a wealth of experience as an investigator and has the proven ability to develop cohesive teams as he has demonstrated whilst heading up the Public Protection Unit Investigation Team over the two previous years.

"Inspector Shimmin will bring a dynamic approach to the policing of the capital and will work closely with Inspector Ken Kneale who leads the Douglas Community Safety Partnership.

"Having a strong leadership profile within the Douglas Neighbourhood Policing Team is essential to continuing our commitment to deliver quality policing services and maintaining close community contact."

Superintendent Cubbon added: "I am more than confident that both Inspector Power and Inspector Shimmin will individually continue to deliver strong styles of visible leadership and continue to develop meaningful community relations in their respective neighbourhood areas."

Detective Sergeant Jed Bibby will temporarily transfer from CID to PPU (Investigation) as Acting Inspector, replacing Inspector Shimmin.
