Jones treble fires Geordies to summit

by isleofman.com 11th September 2010

A second half super show inspired by new signing Frank Jones moved St George’s to the top of the Canada Life Premier League on Saturday.

He hit a second half hat-trick as the Geordies thrashed title rivals Laxey 4-0 at Glencrutchery Road.

Jamie Skillen, who also moved from St Mary’s in the summer, grabbed the other - all this after a goalless first half.

St Mary’s bounced back from their first defeat of the season to move into second after seeing off newly promoted Ayre 6-1.

The prolific Steven Priestnal led the way with a hat-trick. His brother Marc netted two and Martin Reilly was also on target.

Mark Teare notched the Tangerine’s consolation.

Old Boys’ fine form continued as they thrashed Castletown 6-1 at Blackberry Lane.

Goals from Callum Stewart (two), Craig Stewart, Robbie Ward, Andy Ward and Gary Quirk meant Alex Crawley’s reply was a mere consolation.

Reigning champions Rushen finally found something to smile about as they defeated Gymns 2-0.

First half goals from Steven Ridings and Aaron Hawley secured their first home victory of the season.

Gymns are now bottom after Michael spoiled Douglas Royal’s first match at their new ground.

Goals from David Reynolds and Kenny Diack secured a 2-1 victory at Ballafletcher to ruin the newly promoted club’s big day.

The other match at Ballafletcher ended all square as hosts Corinthians shared four goals with Ramsey.

A Martin Torr double had the northerners hoping for victory but Corinthians, who took the lead through an own goal, levelled through club man Nigel Moody.
