BRIT award winning singer Beverley Craven will perform in the Isle of Man in November.
The singer became a household name in the early 90’s with the release of her self titled debut album. It became a worldwide hit selling more than two million copies.
The singer said she likes to play smaller more intimate venues. She explained: "I’m not overawed by larger venues but smaller venues for my kind of music are better.
"It’s very personal when you can see the whites of people’s eyes. My audiences really stay very quiet which can be quite unnerving and worrying but they are just really listening to the music."
Notable songs from her back catalogue include the 1991 single "Promise Me", which became a huge hit across Europe, "Memories", "Holding On" and "Woman to Woman".
In 1992 Beverley received a BRIT Award for Best British Newcomer and was also nominated for Best British Single and Album of the Year.
Despite this she hasn’t always had the confidence to perform on stage.
She said: "I used to be very frightened about going on stage, I was nervous, going live to me was a necessary evil and I had no burning ambition to get up and sing in front of everyone.
"Sometimes you walk out and take a sharp intake of breath when you see how few people are there, but it doesn’t affect how you play, you want to give people their moneys worth."
In 2000 Beverley was dropped from the record label EPIC. After this she began to write her autobiography which she is just putting the finishing touches to.
She said: "When EPIC dropped me in 2000 it was more of a shock than I anticipated. It dented my pride, like being chucked by a bloke you’re not that keen on, but he got there first.
"I started writing to get everything out of my system and it turned into an autobiography, which is a very cathartic thing to do. It’s very personal and difficult to let go. I love to go back and keep picking at it. Reading it now I think how did I remember all of that stuff."
Beverley is currently working on new material and has recently released a live DVD through her website.
She said: "I’ll never be in the charts again - I just go out and do my shows. What’s good about the music business today is that you don’t need a record deal to get stuff out.
"I love the connection with the audience and musicians, it makes me happy. I love meeting people who say which songs they like and the fact that I’ve touched people with a song makes it worthwhile."
Beverly Craven will perform at the Peel Centenary Centre on Saturday, November 6.
