Happy Mondays to play the Villa this week

by isleofman.com 7th September 2010

THE Happy Mondays will be performing at the Villa Marina this Thursday.

The band, which was formed in Manchester in 1984, has had a number of hits - including Step On, Kinky Afro and Hallelujah - throughout their rollercoaster career.

Their albums include Pills 'n' Thrills and Bellyaches and Uncle Dysfunktional.

They will be supported by New Order and Joy Division legend Peter Hook - performing a DJ set - as well as DJ Woody and The Soviet.

Since their formation the Happy Mondays, synonymous with the "Madchester" scene, have disbanded and re-grouped a number of times.

They split in 1992, with lead singer Shaun Ryder and dancer Bez forming a successful spin-off group Black Grape, before reforming for a world tour in 1999.

The band supported Oasis on their Standing on the Shoulder of Giants tour in 2000 but split again soon after.

They reformed in 2004 and have played a number of gigs since including the Coachella Music Festival in California in 2007 and V Festival in 2009.

The band will play the Royal Hall on Thursday, September 9 at 8pm.

Tickets cost £35 and are available from the box office on 01624 600555.
