THE chefs who will compete for the “I Love Manx” amateur chef of the year title later this month have provided their recipes on-line for isleofman.com .
The recipes, listed below, give you the chance to make these unique dishes in your own home. Sultana Hoque’s recipe involves queenies with Manx squash. Chris Callow cooks Hungarian style pork rosti and Pam Crowe cooks Beef Bagoon (fillet steak wrapped in pancetta).
We’ve also included the recipe of the fourth semi finalist - Andy Guy - who cooked a pasta dish Bocatini Special who was narrowly beaten for a place in the final.
If you try to cook these dishes at home we would like to hear how well the recipe worked - and we will publish the best in our Lifestyle Food & Drink section.
All three chefs in the final will cook their special dishes against the clock inside 30 minutes at the Isle of Man Food and Drink Festival on September 25th and 26th at the Villa Marina with the television chef Gino D’Acampo being the judge and guest of honour. The competition is sponsored by Manx Gas Ltd which is celebrating its 175th anniversary this year.
The winner will be awarded the coveted “I Love Manx Cook” trophy and a hamper of Manx produce worth £150. Kathryn Sentence, of Relish Cookery School, will host the final where the chefs cook live in front of an audience and under the expert eye of Gino D”Acampo. The recipes will be judged on three key criteria: proportion of Manx produce used; presentation and taste.
Last year’s first ever Isle of Man Food & Drink Festival attracted more than 8,000 visitors and even more are expected this year. Tickets can be bought on the day or in advance from 686766 or www.visitisleofman.com
