A REVIEW of the local authorities in the Isle of Man is still underway and is said to be progressing well.
As part of the Government restructure in April the Department of Infrastructure gained responsibility for local authorities and launched a review to address issues relating to internal and external audit processes.
Graham Cregeen MHK, who has responsibility for this area, is undertaking a series of visits to local authorities as part of the review.
He will look at the role and responsibility of the Department in providing advice and support to the authorities on a number of issues including governance, risk management and operating standards.
Mr Cregeen recently attended a meeting of the Isle of Man Municipal Association as part of the review.
He said: "Among the topics discussed were waste collection services, the application of byelaws and the role of local authorities in the planning process.
"We also talked about a review of individual commissioner numbers and access to training for local commissioners and their staff."
The review is expected to be completed by January, 2011, at which point Mr Cregeen will report his findings and recommendations to the Department for consideration.
