Bowring Road in Ramsey to re-open during Ramsey Sprint

by isleofman.com 29th August 2010

BOWRING Road in Ramsey will be re-opened on Thursday when the Ramsey Sprint is taking place on Mooragh Promenade.

It has been closed for major reconstruction and utilities works since the end of June.

However, with the Ramsey Sprint taking place on the main diversion route for the Bowring Road closure, the Department of Infrastructure said the only option to accommodate the event is to reopen Bowring Road for the duration of the Ramsey Sprint.

Director of Highways Richard Pearson said: "Traffic flow will be controlled by traffic lights on the northbound carriageway.

"The lights will be manually operated so that emergency services can get through to calls, access to the hospital is maintained and to assist with the traffic flow from the town."

Existing diversion signs will be removed and replacement signs will be installed to advise traffic travelling from the north of the Island that Bowring Road is open.

The full road closure will come back into effect on Friday.
