ONCE again the GCSE pass rate in the Isle of Man is a record high.
The full facts and figures are:
• The A*-G pass rate for full course GCSEs exceeded 98 per cent with 98.7 per cent of entries being successful (slightly higher than last year’s record of 98.5 per cent).
• A total of 1749 entries (20.2 per cent) produced A or A* grades (up on last year’s record figure of 17.9 per cent).
• Over 5,800 full GCSEs (67.9 per cent) were passed at the higher grades, A*-C (up from last year’s record of 64.2 per cent).
• The average number of subjects entered, at 9.8 GCSE entries per student, was slightly lower than in the previous two years (10.1 and 10.0 respectively).
• The GCSE points score per student matched last year’s record figure at 391 points per student (A*=58 points, A=52, B=46, C=40, D=34, E=28, F=22, G=16).
Almost 920 students received their results on Tuesday. The results day had been brought forward throughout the UK to enable schools and colleges to process applications from students who wanted to continue into higher education, before the start of the new term.
These results are not comparable with those released in the UK, as the UK results include all exam entries from grammar schools, independent schools, FE colleges and the Isle of Man results.
The Isle of Man data relates solely to the students from the Island’s five secondary schools.
