Guided walk of the Laxey Wheel on Saturday

by isleofman.com 26th August 2010

The walk will be guided by Geoff Scarffe, an enthusiast and local expert on the Laxey Wheel.

Geoff, who now works for Laxey and Lonan Heritage Trust, spent many years working at the wheel and has great family connections to the wheel complex.

The guided walk is hosted by Manx National Heritage in partnership with Laxey and Lonan Heritage Trust.

Manx National Heritage communications manager Lynsey Radcliffe said: "We are delighted to welcome Geoff back to the Laxey Wheel for this special guided tour.

"Geoff always has many fascinating stories to tell about the wheel and visitors are certain to receive a great insight into tales from the old Laxey mining community."

The walk follows a successful programme of walks hosted by MNH which have taken place in a wide range of historic sites around the Island including South Barrule, Balladoole and Cashtal yn Ard.

It takes place at 1pm and those taking part should meet at the picnic area adjacent to the wheel kiosk.

The walk will last about one hour, although it will be extended for anyone wishing to put in some extra miles.

Standard admission charges apply, with free entry to members of the Friends of Manx National Heritage, members of Laxey and Lonan Heritage Trust and to children presenting their ACE cards.
