A.S.S.I for Ramsey?

by isleofman.com 25th August 2010

Moves to make the Ramsey estuary an Area of Special Scientific Interest has sparked action from the town’s commissioners.

The Department of Environment, Food and Agriculture says it would like to assign ASSI status to the area, conserving it and limiting development.

But the commissioners fear that could stifle economic growth around the centre of the town and plan to call a public meeting in September.

Richard Radcliffe of Ramsey Commissioners says the area is far from being a natural beauty spot.
