Lib Vann's chief minister proposal gets ministerial backing

The Liberal Vannin party has won support from a government minister over its suggested changes to how the chief minister is elected.

Party leader Peter Karran says he wants candidates at the general election to say whether they want the Island’s top job – and what policies they’d follow if they were elected.

At the moment, candidates don’t have to declare they’ll stand until Tynwald begins the voting process.

Environment, food and agriculture minister John Shimmin – who was the only candidate at the last election to throw his hat in the ring for the top ministerial post – says he thinks it’s a good idea:
