Webster fires Ramsey into last four

by isleofman.com 23rd August 2010

Ollie Webster has blasted Ramsey into the semi-finals of the Standard Bank League Cup.

The Island all-rounder was in top form for his side’s crucial match against Cronkbourne on Sunday.

Batting first, the northerners struggled against a hostile Tromode attack but it held no fears for Webster who hit a stunning 109 out of a total of 160.

Batting second, Cronkbourne made a steady start. Carl Wagstaffe hit 37 and Alex Stokoe scored 34, but it was Shaun Kelly who turned the tide with four wickets. He was backed up by Brian Arnold collecting three wickets and skipper Rob Webber pulling off four stumpings.

Cronkbourne were dismissed for 134, a defeat which ends their season.

At Marown, champions Castletown looked set for an early victory when they had Crosby on the ropes at 34 for seven.

The opening attack of Travis Friend and Richard Jackson were almost unplayable. Friend ended his 10 over spell with four wickets for 13 and Jackson collected two wickets for 11.

Crosby then fought back with a battling stand between Tudor Baker and Joe Rothwell. Baker made 29 and Rothwell 34 as their team ended on 117 for nine.

In reply, Castletown were rocked by sharp bowling from Ross Berry and soon found themselves in trouble at 33 for three before Gareth Morris and Wicus Wessels took control.

In a display of big hitting, Morris raced to 55 not out, including four 6s and four 4s. Wessels cracked an undefeated 33 with two 6s as the Town romped home in 25 overs to win by seven wickets.

They will meet Crosby again next week in the Cup semi-finals, while St John’s are at home to Ramsey.
