The Leader of the Liberal Vannin Party, Peter Karran MHK, has announced he intends to put a motion before Tynwald to change the procedures by which the Chief Minister is appointed.
Mr Karran says in nearly all western countries the electorate has an opportunity to directly influence the choice of policies to be pursued by an incoming Government, as well as the person to be charged with leading that Government.
This isn't the case in the Island as at present the policies to be pursued by the incoming government are determined AFTER the General Election, as is the decision as to which Member of Tynwald is to be the Chief Minister.
Mr Karran believes this means the electorate are effectively disenfranchised and he believes his proposals will go someway to addressing the problem.
