Oliver! at the Gaiety approaches 10,000 ticket sales

by isleofman.com 20th August 2010

THE production of Oliver! at the Gaiety Theatre has sold nearly 10,000 tickets during its run.

The Lionel Bart musical - brought to the  Gaiety by Taylorian Productions and based on the classic Charles Dickens novel Oliver Twist - ends its run tomorrow (Saturday).

It is directed by John Cumberlidge and features popular songs including I'd Do Anything, Food Glorious Food and It's a Fine, Fine Life.

Oliver! tells the story of the little workhouse boy who asked for more.

His request lands him in trouble with the workhouse matron and he is sold to an unfavourable local undertaker and his family.

Oliver quickly escapes and befriends another young boy, the Artful Dodger, who takes Oliver under his wing at an academy for orphans.

The show started its run on August 9.

Matt James, of Taylorian Productions, is delighted with the show's success.

He said: "We have had standing ovations almost every night and had sold 6,000 tickets even before we opened."

He praised the company and crew for all the hard work on the stage and behind-the-scenes and described the orchestra as "fantastic".

For tickets visit the Welcome Centre at the Sea Terminal, the Villa Marina reception or call the ticket hotline on 01624 600555.
