TWO rugby players have kayaked their way from the Isle of Man to Scotland, to raise money for charity.
Jamie Cooke and Marc Purcell from the Vagabonds rugby club, kayaked from the Point of Ayre to Scotland to raise more than £3,000 for the Manx Foundation for the Physically Disabled and for their rugby club.
The two novice kayakers trained all summer in preparation for the challenge, which was conducted under the supervision of the outdoor activity company Adventurous Experiences.
The challenge had been delayed for several weeks because of adverse weather conditions but the duo finally managed to complete the crossing on Sunday, August 15.
Jamie said: "It was an amazing feeling to have completed this challenge and in doing so we have raised over £3,000 for the Manx Foundation and the Rugby Club.
"Conditions were not easy as we had to contend with a strong tide, but we finally made it in five hours and 20 minutes."
Marc said special thanks must go to Adventurous Experiences who supplied the kayaks and the kit for the trip.
He said: "Without Keirron and his team we probably wouldn’t have made it off the beach never mind to Scotland."
Julie Needham, fundraiser for the Manx Foundation for the Physically Disabled, said: "We are delighted that Jamie and Marc, both novice kayakers, have completed the challenge.
"The money that they have raised will help with the provision of essential care services to people who have a disability."
The kayakers thanked all sponsors for their generous donations.
