The Isle of Man's A-level results - the facts

by isleofman.com 19th August 2010

THERE are a number of interesting facts and figures about this year's A-level results.

*The number of Year 13 students (aged 17/18) entered for A-level was the second highest ever at 367.

*The pass rate (ie grades A* to E) was a record 98.2 per cent.

*Using the UCAS tariff system (140 points for grade A*, 120 for A, 100 for B, 80 for C, 60 for D and 40 for E) the average points score per entry was 81.5, the second highest on record.

*The percentage of A and AS entries achieving grade B or above was 38.2, slightly higher than last year's figure of 36.7 per cent. Almost five percent of entries were successful in achieving the new A* grade.

*The average UCAS points score per student was 306, slightly down on recent years due to the reduced entries per student.

The results for the Isle of Man are not directly comparable with the results that will be published in the UK tomorrow.

The initial UK results relate to all entrants and include mature students and students in colleges and independent schools whereas the Isle of Man data relates solely to Year 13 students in the five secondary schools.
