WORK will start on Monday on visibility improvements at the junction from the Cronk y Berry estate onto Johnny Watterson's Lane.
The Department of Infrastructure said the scheme will see temporary traffic signals used to control traffic flow during working hours.
It apologies for any inconvenience to motorists, pedestrians and residents during the course of the works which will be completed no later than Friday, October 29.
The department said the Cronk y Berry estate was built in the early 1980s, when visibility splays at junctions were not always built by developers.
The junction onto Johnny Watterson’s Lane has substandard visibility in each direction, but particularly towards the south. In recent years there has been a significant increase in traffic and at peak times it can be difficult for vehicles to safely pull out of Cronk y Berry.
Last year the department carried out major road improvements on Johnny Watterson’s Lane which included minor junction improvements at Hailwood Avenue and Campion Way.
In order to meet current design and safety standards for junctions, the department will create appropriate visibility splays on each side of the junction by relocating the boundary walls and fences at the adjoining properties.
Infrastructure Minister Phil Gawne MHK said: "There are approximately 3,000 vehicle movements per day in each direction on Johnny Watterson’s Lane.
"The increase in traffic has been created gradually over the years by the increase in the size of Cronk y Berry housing estate, which now has approximately 170 houses.
"In addition, the large developments at Governors Hill and Abbeyfields have added significant traffic to Johnny Watterson’s Lane in recent years.
"The Cronk y Berry visibility improvements were held back from the main Johnny Watterson’s Lane scheme last year because we had not finalised all the land agreements with the five property owners affected by the proposed work.
"In order not to delay the Johnny Watterson Lane scheme, a decision was made to defer the start of Cronk y Berry scheme until the land agreements had been finalised."
