by isleofman.com 17th August 2010

THE Manx Bat Group will hold a public bat walk in Laxey on Saturday, August 28.

The event will mark European Bat Weekend which is a celebration of bats organised by the Bat Conservation Trust every year.

The bat walk will provide members of the public with a chance to see and hear bats in their natural environment and members of the Manx Bat Group with will be on hand to identify which species of bat are being seen.

The group has a number of bat detectors available for loan at the walk and after a brief introductory talk on the biology of British - and Manx - bats participants will be invited to split up, depending on numbers, and explore different parts of Laxey to find out where the bats are flying.

Laxey is a good location for bats with a number of roosts of different species already identified.

Anyone who wants to join the bat walk should meet at Laxey Valley Gardens at 8.30pm on Saturday, August 28.
