PREPARATIONS are well under way for an open day at Douglas Fire Station, this Sunday, August 22.
It is the first time for several years that the station, located on Peel Road, has hosted the event in aid of local charities and the Fire Fighters Charity.
Leading firefighter Colin Kirkham said: "Many firefighters are involved in putting on events for the open day and we are grateful to the huge support already received from businesses.
"As well as the chance to win prizes, we will have fun for all the family here on Sunday with the opportunity to go up an aerial ladder platform or jump on the bouncy fire engine.
"There will be a number of exciting demonstrations throughout the day including a live chip pan fire and rescue drills using the station’s drill tower."
Line rescue team members have already started setting up a Slide of Terror, 20 feet high, behind the fire station. There will also be water games involving the hose reels used by the firefighters.
No parking is available on site but spaces may be available at the Quarterbridge pub car park and at the National Sports Centre’s overflow parking area.
The open day runs from 11am until 4pm. Admission is free with donations to the charities gratefully received.
