Martin and Charlie complete kayak voyage

One man and his dog made it from Cumbria to the Isle of Man by kayak yesterday, all in aid of charity.

Martin Whitmill and Charlie, who sits on the front of his kayak, completed the journey in around nine-and-a-half hours.

Martin says he did it to raise money for Water Aid and four of his local churches - and to honour the people of the Isle of Man, who treated his father so well when he found himself here on VE day.

Speaking after they'd completed the marathon journey, Martin says Charlie took it all in his stride and coped better than he did:
