Brilliant batting from Phil Littlejohns rescued St John’s from disaster at Marown in the Standard Bank Premiership.

Great bowling by Ross Berry had reduced the Saints to 40 for 6. The tall Crosby seamer was in devastating form and finished with six wickets for 27 runs from his 10 overs. He was aided by a fine display from keeper Mark Quinn who claimed four catches and pulled off a stumping.

With St John’s facing almost certain defeat, Littlejohns was joined by Andrew Turner and, batting confidently, the pair put on a stand of 132. Phil hit 110 which included 12 fours and 5 sixes. Turner was 41 not out when the innings closed on 222.

Greg Hawke and Akkie van der Berg then destroyed the Crosby top order. At 32 for 5 the Marown team had no way back. Despite a brave innings of 22 from Jacob Hicklin, the side were dismissed for 93. Van der Berg took four wickets for 23, Hawke two for 33 and Jon Norrington two for 13.
