Big weekend for traditional dancing

One of the longest running dance festivals in the British Isles, if not the world, gets into its stride at the Villa Marina in Douglas today (Saturday).

And with around 200 visiting dancers and displays by some of the United Kingdom's best known couples, it could also be the biggest festival held here since the 1980s.

On both days, dancers will be stepping-out in classes for ballroom, Latin American and Old Time, with evening demonstrations today and tomorrow by some of the top names in UK professional dance.

Ellis Killey, who has run the event for more than 40 years, says dance has changed a great deal in that time, but is as popular as ever:
