With the 2011 House of Keys general election just over a year away, the Manx Labour Party is calling for a limit on the amount candidates can spend on their campaigns.
The party is against funding for candidates by so-called blind trusts, but thinks the present ban on advertising in the local media should be lifted.
Labour Party member and South Douglas MHK David Cretney has been speaking about the party's submission to an independent panel which is reviewing election funding.
He says a limit on spending would be fairer to all, and should be in place in time for the election, in September next year.
