A TOTAL of £75,000 has been donated to the disaster hit areas in Pakistan and West Africa.
The Isle of Man Government has pledged £40,000 to the Disasters Emergency Committee (DEC) who are responding to the flood crisis in Pakistan.
The flooding has affected 14 million people and claimed the lives of 1,600.
Money will go towards aid for a total of 545,000 people and will assist with fixing water systems, trucking clean water and providing water purification tablets.
Chairman of the Overseas Aid Committee, Phil Gawne MHK, said: "I am acutely aware that our modest contribution to the combined efforts to help victims of the flooding in Pakistan will not go far and I hope that further funding will be made available shortly.
"I am aware that various charities involved with the DEC are also raising money locally, with the support of the Manx people and I urge everyone to support them."
In addition, £35,000 has been donated to Christian Aid in order to help those affected by the flooding in Burkina Faso, West Africa. The flooding, caused by intense storms at the end of July, has left more than 60,000 people homeless.
Money will help buy, transport and distribute, cereals and oil, mats, blankets, food kits, soap and cooking utensils for affected families.
Mr Gawne continued: "The situation in Burkina Faso, which rates sixth from bottom on the United Nations’ Human Development Index, has attracted less media attention so we have supported the response to the flooding there as well."
Anyone wishing to make a donation to the Pakistan disaster appeal can do so by visiting the Oxfam shop in Castle Street, Douglas or online at www.oxfam.org.uk.
