BROADWAY Cinema, at the Villa Marina, will become the most technologically advanced cinema in the Island, from September.
The Department of Community, Culture and Leisure has made the claim after purchasing new 3D equipment for the cinema.
The Palace Cinema, on Central Promenade, has already been showing films in 3D for several months.
Community, Culture and Leisure Minister David Cretney MHK said: "The Department strives to offer the best leisure and entertainment facilities for everyone in the Isle of Man. With so many of the latest and best films being made for 3D viewing, I am delighted that the Broadway Cinema is now able to offer this to our customers."
The cinema will be able to offer customers the full 3D experience, after installing a state of the art digital projector. The Barco DP 12-C, which was launched in May, is the latest equipment on the market and will take over from the Cinemeccanica Victoria 5, which has been used since the venue first opened in April 2004.
As well as screening the latest in 3D films, the equipment will also be capable of streaming live events such as major concerts and sporting events. It will also be used for presentations and conferences held in the cinema.
Mr Cretney believes the introduction of the new software has many operational advantages. He said: "3D is just one of the many benefits of the new digital projection equipment at the Broadway Cinema. The new projection facilities will allow the Broadway Cinema to be more cost effective with greatly reduced shipping costs and more efficient with reduced delivery timescales. The new projector offers greater quality for customers and greater efficiency and value for the Broadway Cinema."
The first film to be shown in 3D will be the zombie action hit, Resident Evil: Afterlife (cert 18). This will premiere on Friday, September 10 with tickets available from the ticket hotline on 01624 600555, the Welcome Centre at the Sea Terminal, or on the door at the Villa Marina.
The Palace Cinema is currently showing Toy Story 3 in 3D. Tickets are available from the ticket hotline on 01624 627777 or online at www.palace-cinema.com
