Local authority rents 'emotive and complicated'

A long serving member of the House of Keys believes it's unrealistic to bring local authority housing rents in the Isle of Man more into line with those paid in the private sector.

South Douglas MHK David Cretney's constituency has a large number of public sector homes, in areas such as Pulrose and Anagh Coar, and he describes it as 'an important, emotive and complicated subject'.

He was asked about the issue after the Department of Social Care requested views on the current system from local authorities.

Mr Cretney says rent increases introduced over the last few years have been fair:
