Councillor says authorities could combine services

Could three of the Isle of Man's local authorities pool their resources to empty bins, and run a kerbside recycling scheme at the same time?

Leader of Douglas Borough Council David Christian thinks so, and will be talking to Onchan and Braddan about the idea.

Currently the three cooperate on the kerbside recycling scheme, which is operated by Douglas, but collect and empty bins individually.

Councillor Christian says, with tough budgetary times ahead, amalgamating some services would make good financial sense.

And it's important to address the issues now, because the government funded pilot scheme for recycling only has a year to run:
