Council aims to reduce bye-law violations

Violations of bye-laws in Douglas, controlling dog fouling and littering, are more likely to result in ?50 fixed penalty fines in the future.

Councillors were very disappointed to hear that only 150 people were issued with notices for the offences in the past three years, and have given a clear instruction to their enforcement officers to take more action.

Chairman of the Policy and Resources Committee David Christian says the number of cases being dealt with simply doesn't reflect the scale of the problem.

And things have got noticibly worse since the ban came in on smoking in public places:
