Curtain raiser to new campaign

by isleofman.com 7th August 2010

The traditional opener to the new football season takes place on Sunday evening when League Champions Rushen United play FA Cup winners St. George's in the Eric Fletcher Charity Shield.

The venue is Peel with The Bowl now out of use for the entire campaign as it is redeveloped in time for the Commonweath Youth Games in 2011 - the match kicks-off at 6pm.

Rushen have recruited the pacey Michael Edge from bitter southern rivals Castletown but have lost the services of Island keeper Grant Dawson who will be at the other end of the pitch in nets for St. George's.

Geordies have also signed fellow Island internationals Ciaran McNulty from Gymns and Frank Jones from St. Mary's.
