Strong links between the Isle of Man and Britain's armed forces will be recognised at a special ceremony later this month.
For the first time, the freedom of the Borough of Douglas is to be conferred on a military body, namely the 12th Regiment Royal Artillery.
The ceremony will be on Saturday, August 28, and will be attended by over 200 visiting military personnel.
Leader of the council David Christian says it's a special honour, which is richly deserved (play audio file):
The ceremony will be held outside the town hall in Ridgeway Street, and will involve a presentation by the Mayor of Douglas, Councillor Ritchie McNicholl, to the commanding officer of the regiment.
The regiment will then fix bayonets and march down Victoria Street and along the promenade to the war memorial, where wreaths will be laid.
