Local authority back to full strength

by isleofman.com 5th August 2010

Port St Mary has four new commissioners.

The number of nominations received by Monday's 5pm deadline matched the number of vacancies, so all four candidates have been elected to serve without a contest.

Manx nationalist Mark O'Meara, from the Albert Hotel, steps into local politics, taking a seat on the board.

Twenty-two-year-old Mr O'Meara was cautioned by police earlier this year, in connection with nationalist graffiti.

He is joined by advocate Christopher Kinley, working parent Helen Kinvig and retired civil servant Alexander Merchant.

Four of Port St Mary's nine commissioners resigned last month, along with the clerk, claiming issues they'd discussed in private had been aired in public.

The election set for August 25 has been cancelled.
