Lucky cat 'peckish' after waterwheel rescue

It may have all been in a day's work for local firefighters, but a lucky cat from Glen Vine could have used one of its nine lives after an unusual rescue this week.

The Fire and Rescue Service was called to recover the trapped animal from the base of a restored waterwheel in a garden in the village, on Tuesday.

Two firemen climbed in and, after slowly turning the wheel, managed to free the pet and reunite it with its owners.

Leading firefighter Colin Kirkham says the cat seemed none the worse for its ordeal, apart from being a bit peckish:
