Murder trial jury hears how body was discovered

by isleofman.com 5th August 2010

Jurors at a murder trial have heard how the body of a Douglas builder was initially mistaken for that of a labrador dog in the aftermath of the fire which killed him.

Sixty-one-year-old Terence Losh died when a blaze tore through his home in Desmesne Road, in the early hours of Sunday, March 22 last year.

Simon Paul Leece, of Fairfield Terrace in Douglas, is on trial accused of murdering Mr Losh and of starting three other less serious fires.

In a statement, read out in court today (Thursday), fire officer Andrew Ian Corrie described how he discovered Mr Losh's body, after the fire had been put out.

He said he first thought it was a domestic dog, before debris was cleared from the area, revealing it to be a man.

He went on to relate how finding the body had altered the mood of the officers at the scene.

The trial continues.
