Missing pet sets new challenge for fire crews

by isleofman.com 4th August 2010

Fire crews from Douglas carried out an unusual rescue operation when a cat became trapped underneath the bottom of a restored water wheel at a property in Glen Vine.

Two firefighters climbed down into the basin of the wheel and, with the help of colleagues, were able to free the animal.

The cat was wearing a collar bearing its owners' details, and they were delighted when they were told their pet had been found safe and well.

A spokesman for the Fire and Rescue Service said crews were often called to recover animals from precarious places.

However, in his 20 years of service he had never seen one rescued from a water wheel.

The cat was recovered on Tuesday afternoon.
