Father says soldier son is 'lucky to be alive'

The young Royal Marine from Douglas seriously injured in Afghanistan is to undergo a third operation on his leg.

It's emerged 23-year-old Martin Peters and a colleague from 40 Commando were approached by a suicide bomber while on patrol in Helmand province.

Martin suffered serious shrapnel wounds to his leg and and abdomen and is now being treated in a military injuries unit at Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham.

His parents Derek and Karen, who live in Stanley Terrance on Broadway, are with their son.

Mr Peters told Manx Radio his son is lucky to be alive:
