Lots of people want to be a copper!

A CAREER in the Isle of Man as a policeman is more popular than ever.

There has been such significant interest in the latest recruitment campaign that the Isle of Man Constabulary has had to arrange an additional open evening for people interested in joining the force.

More than 30 people have already booked to attend each of the two scheduled open evenings, the next being on August 10th. The additional open evening will now take place on Wednesday, August 11th.

“We’ve had a lot of enquiries and I told several people the open evenings were fully booked,” said Department of Home Affairs’ Human Resources Team member Jane McCann. “So I’d like to promote the fact that an additional date is now available to meet the demand.”

To reserve a place on the August 11 open evening or for further information, contact Jane by telephoning 631547 between 1pm and 4pm. All the information is available on the police website www.gov.im/dha/police/vacancies.gov.

This is the sixth recruitment drive by the Constabulary since January 2007, when training became provided wholly on-Island. The trainee officers maintain the Island’s establishment of 236 police officers, replacing officers who retire. Successful applicants will be offered a place on the student officer training programme commencing in January 2011.

The deadline for completed applications and other forms to be returned to the Isle of Man Constabulary is 4pm on August 27th.
