Kayak will have pet dog as passenger!

by isleofman.com 2nd August 2010

A CUMBRIAN man is planning to sail across the Irish Sea to the Isle of Man in a kayak - with his dog on board!

Charlie the labrador cross will be the passenger when Martin Whitmill from Cleator Moor sets off on the 35 mile trip from St Bee’s.

The pair have been a regular sight on Ennerdale Water in the Lake District since the start of the year, getting in practice most days for their kayak trip which will raise money for charity.

Following illness, Martin Whitmill says his dog played a major part in his recovery. “Charlie gave me my life back - first we went walking and then running and then we tried kayaking and he loves it.”

The charity kayak trip will raise money for the charity Water Aid and also Martin’s local church. One of the clergy will be aboard the support boat when the sea crossing attempt takes place.

“Now we’re just waiting for the right weather conditions,” said Martin.
