Manx marine injured by roadside bomb

The parents of a young Manx serviceman injured on duty in Afghanistan remain at his hospital bedside this morning (Sunday).

Royal Marine Martin Peters, 23, is being treated for a broken leg and shrapnel wounds at Queen Elizabeth hospital in Birmingham.

He was injured serving with 40 Commando in Helmand province on Friday but the circumstances still aren't clear.

Marine Peters grew up in Broadway in Douglas and went to St Ninian's High School. His parents Derek and Karen left the Island to be with him when he was flown back to Britain.

The Royal British Legion's Major Charles Wilson says Marine Peters was warmly greeted by service veterans at Armed Forces Day in the Island in June:
