The mediation service based at the Children's Centre closes its doors today (Friday).
The centre had hoped government would offer grants to keep the operation going, but the Department of Home Affairs has chosen to set up its own register of qualified mediators, which will be funded on a trial basis, at a cost of around £38,000.
For the past 18 months the charity had used its own funds to run the service.
With a focus on ensuring children are put first when couples separate or divorce, the Children's Centre helped scores of youngsters survive the misery of family break-ups.
It asked couples for contibutions, based on their ability to pay, and head of family and community services John McKenzie is concerned those facing financial difficulties may not be able to afford mediation in the future:
