THE Isle of Man's Treasury Minister Anne Craine MHK has been announced as the speaker for the 2010 Sir Thomas Gresham Docklands lecture.
The prestigious annual lecture is the flagship finance/banking lecture in the calendar of Gresham College, a 413-year-old institution which boasts Lords, Ladies and some of the country’s leading academics among its speakers for next year.
Mrs Craine's lecture will be attended by hundreds of London’s leading City figures, who will pack out East Wintergarden in the Docklands at 6pm on Tuesday, November 2.
She will use the platform to deliver a timely lecture on the position and future of offshore financial centres.
A statement from the college said: "At a time of unprecedented financial uncertainty throughout the world, the Isle of Man remains a core asset to the City of London and continues to make a positive contribution to the wider international economy.
"Perhaps best known for its financial services industry, the Island has encouraged the diversification of its economic base and is now home to a wide range of quality niche sectors including space commerce, e-gaming and high-tech manufacturing.
"Looking to the future, the Isle of Man, a self-governing British Crown Dependency, will continue to seek ways to strengthen its position as a leading international business centre that is renowned for its innovation, professionalism and long standing policy of positive engagement with global standards."
