Health official's warning to pregnant women

A senior health official in the Isle of Man says pregnant women mustn't overdo it with their intake of calories, as their babies need less than they may think.

Dr Paul Emerson's comments come after health experts in England said they were seeing an 'obesity epidemic' among expectant mothers.

He says the adage that a pregnant woman should be eating for two is nothing more than 'an old wives' tale', and mums-to-be shouldn't each much more than they normally do.
