Big turn out expected for the funeral of Deemster Kerruish

by isleofman.com 21st July 2010

POLICE have issued parking information as a large turn out is expected for the funeral of Deemster Kerruish this Friday (July 23).

It takes place at Lonan Church at noon. Police warned Lonan Church is accessed by a narrow road and parking space is extremely limited.

Inspector Helen Mason said: "It is anticipated that there will be a large number of persons attending this funeral and, in an effort to assist, a local farmer and the Lonan Church wardens have kindly made available fields which can be used to park in.

"As things stand the ground would appear to be firm and the police do not anticipate any problems with the use of these fields.

"I would however like to remind people that parking within these fields must be done at their own risk.

"There will be police officers and traffic wardens in the area who will direct people towards the parking which is available.

"Demand will still be high for this parking and I would ask that people ensure they leave adequate time to park and get to the church and that they share transport where possible.

"I believe that there may still be delays on the surrounding roads both prior to and after the funeral, and I would ask the public to be patient whilst this traffic is dealt with."

Deemster John Michael Kerruish QC died on July 14 at Hospice Isle of Man following a long illness.

A number of tributes were given following his death.
