Plan to run steam trains on Thursday evenings

by isleofman.com 21st July 2010

STEAM trains will run from Douglas to Castletown on Thursday evenings throughout August, the Department of Community, Culture and Leisure has announced.

The scheme will start on July 29 and will continue throughout the following month.

They will depart Douglas at 7.20pm each Thursday and leave Castletown at 9.30pm to return to Douglas.

Tickets can be bought from Douglas train station at the time of travel.

To coincide with the last evening trains, Castle Rushen will remain open until 9.15pm every Thursday night from July 29 to August 26.

Children’s entertainment will be available in the Castle grounds on each of the late opening evenings, except August 26 when there will be a special performance by local music group Renaissance.

Community, Culture and Leisure Minister David Cretney MHK said: "A trip on the train to Castletown is a great experience in itself, but to be able to enjoy it during a summer evening where the scenery will be quite beautiful is a special opportunity.

"There promises to be something to do for everyone, ranging from enjoying something to eat or a drink at one of the friendly pubs to visiting Castle Rushen and enjoying some of the entertainment on offer in the castle grounds."
