Renewed call for independent police complaints system

by isleofman.com 20th July 2010

Can the police be trusted to investigate complaints against the force? Alex Downie MLC says to avoid any doubt there should be an independent investigator.

In Tynwald, a revised police complaints procedure was debated and voted through by the court.

But the system still sees senior officers investigating allegations made by the public rather than an external body which can’t be accused of bias.

Mr Downie says he can’t understand why some sort of complaints commission can’t be set up.
