Will it be a short course for longboats?

by isleofman.com 17th July 2010

It's Viking Longboat Day in Peel today and the crews will be hoping for favourable conditions.

Over eighty teams are entered in the annual event which sees ten-man crews race their longboats around a buoy in Peel bay and back to the breakwater.

Races start at 1pm and the seafront road closes at 12.45.

Race Secretary Jimmy Lee says competitors will be hoping the wind is in the right direction, as this can make all the difference to the length of the course.
