Yn Chruinnaght gets underway this weekend

THE annual Yn Chruinnaght festival starts tomorrow (Saturday) and will feature a week of music, dance and Celtic language events.

 

Yn Chruinnaght, which means The Gathering, is a celebration of Manx Culture and the relationship between the Isle of Man and the other five Celtic countries - Scotland, Ireland, Wales, Cornwall and Brittany.

 

Below is a list of events happening during the week:

 

Saturday, July 10:

 
7.30pm: Concert with Celtic youth groups Nish as Rish, Bree, Share na Veg & Galeforce - Scoill Ree Gorree, Ramsey free of charge

 

Sunday, July 11:

 
2pm: Concert music and dance afternoon with Breton Duo Robic/Guillarme, Ellan Vannin Pipes and Drums, Manx Folk Dance Society and more in Mooragh Park, Ramsey FOC


8pm Fest-Nos evening of Breton music and dance with Duo Robic/Guillarme & Manx ceili with the Reeling Stones - Masonic Hall, Douglas £6/4

 

Monday, July 12:

 
8pm Concert Kiaull Oor Noa – Concert of new Manx song, music and dance, Freemasons' Hall, Ramsey FOC

 

Tuesday, July 13:

 
7.30pm: Lecture with Bob Carswell – A talk about Thurot and Elliot, Town Hall, Ramsey, followed by a Sea song come-all-ye, Britannia Hotel, Ramsey FOC

 

Wednesday, July 14:


7.30pm: Concert - Welsh Harp & Singing with Harriet Earis and Ian Wyn Rowlands, plus Breton bombarde, Manx organist David Kilgallon & choir Cliogaree Twoaie - St German's Cathedral, Peel FOC

 

Thursday, July 15:


4-6pm: Workshop - Harp with Harriet Earis & Rachel Hair – St. Peter’s Parish Hall, Onchan FOC

 

8pm: Concert - Scottish Bagrock with The Red Hot Chilli Pipers, plus Manx group The Mollag Band - Villa Marina, Douglas £12.50  (tickets from the Villa Gaiety complex only)

 

Friday, July 16:

 
12pm: Food & Folk Informal music session – The Creek, Peel FOC


7pm: Celtic Language Event, Atholl Room, Centenary Centre, Peel FOC


8pm: Nos Lowen Cornish music and dance with Dalla plus Welsh music and dance from Jamie Smith, Grainne Joughin & Malcolm Stitt - Corrin Hall, Peel £6/4 BYOB

 

Saturday, July 17:

12pm: Food & Folk Informal music session – The Creek, Peel FOC


2pm: Busk: Bree Manx youth group busk around Peel for the National Autistic Society


8pm: Concert - Scottish singer Emily Smith with Welsh/Manx act Whistle in the Dark and Cornish band Dalla - Centenary Centre, Peel £12/7

 

Sunday, July 18:
2pm: Workshop - Welsh step dance with Grainne Joughin – Atholl Room, Centenary Centre, Peel FOC

8pm: Concert - Irish band Beoga plus Manx fiddle act Pluck and Gaelic singers Phil Gawne & Bill Corlett, Annie Kissack & Clare Kilgallon, Centenary Centre, Peel £12/7
