by isleofman.com 8th July 2010

A teenager who tried to bite a police officer has been remanded in custody while he awaits sentencing.

David William Kelly of Mona Drive in Douglas admitted affray, damaging property and assaulting police officer with intent to resist arrest.

He appeared before the Deputy High Bailiff Alastair Montgomery, who heard police had been called to a serious disturbance in Mona Drive on July 2.

Justin Bullers, prosecuting, said officers found a smashed bench and were told by a witness Kelly was inside destroying the property.

Officers found the 18 year old shouting and screaming and as they entered he became abusive.

Police tried to calm him but he refused and as they tried to handcuff him he tried to bite a woman officer’s leg.

Kelly was restrained but remained volatile all the way to Police headquarters where he urinated against a cell wall.

He told the court he couldn't remember the incident because he’d been taking prescription tablets with cannabis.

He’ll be sentenced on July 30th.
